Precinct 1 - Justice of the Peace

Randy Brodbeck is the current Justice of the Peace in Precinct 1 for Blanco County. Randy is in his third term as JP having been elected in November 2014 and took office January 1, 2015. The justice of the peace is the presiding officer of the justice court and the small claims court. He has jurisdiction over minor misdemeanor offenses (Class C), and in civil matters where the amount in controversy does not exceed $20,000.

Additionally, the justice of the peace may issue arrest and search warrants, preside over hearings pertaining to suspension of driver licenses, and also conducts inquests.

  • The jury trial scheduled___ for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 is CANCELLED.  JURORS DO NOT NEED TO APPEAR.

    If you have Jury Duty, please report to the Blanco County Courthouse, 101 E. Pecan St., Johnson City, Texas 78636, unless otherwise directed by a Justice official. Appropriate attire is required.  (No shorts, tank tops, halter tops, logo t-shirts, or flip flops)

    Please call 830-868-4888 after 5 p.m. on the last business day before the day you are to report for updated messages concerning the status of the trial.  If there is not a recorded message, you are to report as originally summoned.  You may also click the Jury Status tab on the Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 website for updated information.  If the jury trial were to be cancelled, there would be a message to indicate the cancellation.

    Blanco County Courtroom Dress Code & Order on Cell Phones

    1. Bare feet, shorts, sleeveless shirts, tank tops, undershirts, or any arrangement of clothing which reveals undergarments or a bare mid-section are prohibited.

    2. Clothing or body parts that are dirty, malodorous, greasy, potentially injurious, offensive, or which otherwise adversely affect the orderly conduct of business are not permitted.

    3. Pickets, signs, or any clothing which attempts to display any message relating to any pending case or class of cases are prohibited.

    4. All clothing, accessories, or tattoos which display writing, script, or images of a profane, sexual, blasphemous, offensive, or infamous nature must be concealed.

    5. The use of chewing gum, toothpicks, and tobacco products is prohibited inside a courthouse.

    6. Gentlemen, take off your hats.

    7. Pagers and Cell Phones MUST be turned off and may not be used while Court is in session.Vibrator-mode pagers may be worn but should not be checked at a time or in a manner so as to disrupt the proceedings.

    The existing (more stringent) rules continue to apply to attorneys.

    NO food or beverages other than bottle water are permitted in the Courtroom.

    This is YOUR Courtroom where matters of extreme importance to the parties are conducted and your attention to adding appropriate dignity to the proceedings is appreciated.

    EXEMPTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    After receiving your jury summons card, please read all the information on the front and back of card, complete the reverse side and bring your card with you to the jury trial.

    If you determine that you are Exempt or you do not meet the Qualifications to serve as a juror, please complete this form by circling the exemption or qualification that applies to you, date and sign your name at the bottom of the form and mail it back to the Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 office, P.O. Box 405, Johnson City, Texas 78636.
