This office is a highly responsible managerial position, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Federal Law (U.S. Code of Federal Regulations), Title 38 – State Laws and Regulations applying to Veterans and their dependents in obtaining all benefits to which they are entitled by law.
The Hill County Veterans Service Officer reports to the Commissioners Court. He stays informed by attending the bi-annual Texas Veterans Commission State Conference, as well as quarterly meetings of the Dallas V.A., the Waco Regional Office, and the Temple V.A..
Maintains an office in the Hill County Courthouse Annex at 126 S. Covington, Room 6; Office Hours - By appointment Monday through Friday. Administers Hill County Commissioners Administrative policy and technical direction of the Texas Veterans Commission at the station and assigned area.
This officer must be a High School graduate with work experience in clerical, rehabilitation, aging, social work and administration; or, any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform “Principle Duties and Responsibilities” required in connection with this position.
The Veterans Service Officer must be an Honorably Discharged Wartime Veteran, Gold Star Mother, or an unmarried or remarried widow of a serviceman. The Assistant Veterans Service Officer must be the wife or widow of an Honorably Discharged Wartime Serviceman.
The Veterans Service Officer and Assistant Veterans Service Officer must obtain certification of approval by the Veterans Affairs Commission, Article 5786 Title 94, Vernons Statutes.
In addition, the Veterans Service Officer and Assistant Veterans Service Officer must meet training requirements of twelve credit hours for Annual Certification.
