The Immunization Program offers all childhood vaccines, as well as, some vaccines required for travel (i.e. Yellow Fever), most adult vaccines (i.e. Hepatitis B, TDAP, Td, MMR), and dispenses Rabies HRIG & Vaccine. Most of the vaccines administered in the clinic are received directly from the Texas Department of Health Services (DSHS) in Austin, Texas or via a third party distribution system. The Health Department’s Immunization Program adopts the Department of State Health Services standards for immunization practices that meet the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). The immunization benefits, risks, and contraindications are provided for the immunization recipients in written and oral lay terms.
With consent, children's and adult's immunizations administration & histories
are entered into an Immunization Registry (ImmTrac).
ImmTrac is also programmed for information sharing. Reminders/recalls may be
automatically sent to help assure age appropriate immunization compliance.
Individuals receiving immunizations are given validated updated copies of their
immunization records. Comprehensive Clinic Assessment Software Application
(CoCASA) and
Assessment, Feedback, Incentive, and eXchange (AFIX), provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, assesses
immunization coverage statuses and compliance rates of facilities. The
immunization staff conducts routine immunization records audits in licensed day
care facilities, registered family homes, Head Start facilities, Early Education
Centers, and public and private schools. They also conduct follow up visits on
providers and post their annual Site Visit on an as needed basis directed by the
State.
