The office of the County Treasurer was established in the Texas Constitution in 1846. In 1891, J.M. Jackson was the first Ector County Treasurer, according to the research done by Ector Counties long time County Clerk, Lucille Wolz.
The Ector County Treasurer is the Chief Custodian of county finance for Ector County and officially the County’s Banker and has the responsibility of collection and accounting for all monies belonging to the County from any source derived according to the law.
The Ector County Treasurer operates as the Chief Liason between Ector County and the County’s depository Bank. The Treasurer’s office is defined by the Texas Local Government Code.
The primary duties of this office included being the county’s co-investment officer, receiving, keeping, accounting, reconciling bank statement, invoicing, responsibility of paying, applying and disbursing all monies belonging to the county.
