Mission
The primary mission of the Wilson County Attorney’s Office, based on the Texas Constitution and statutes, is to prosecute violations of the misdemeanor laws of the State of Texas in the County Court and Justice Courts of Wilson County. In addition, the County Attorney seeks protective orders against family violence, prosecutes cases against juveniles, assists merchants with hot checks, represents the State in bail bond forfeiture cases in County Court, and assists the County in civil enforcement of health and safety laws and regulations.

Secondarily, the County Attorney, based on Texas statute, Tex. Gov’t Code §41.007, is to “on request, shall give to a county or precinct official . . . a written opinion or advice relating to the official duties of that official.” The intent of this statute was to clarify that a county attorney in Texas is not generally responsible for all legal matters touching the county or county officials, unlike most City attorneys are for their home-rule cities and some county attorneys are for urban counties.
