District Attorney

The district attorney represents the State in all felony criminal cases in Hunt County.  The District Attorney’s Office, including assistant prosecutors and staff, works with law enforcement in the investigation and preparation of these cases.  Our duty under Texas law is “to see that justice is done.”  Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 2.01

 

The District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to providing the best possible direct and personal service to victims of crime and their families. It is our goal to assure those victimized that they have not been left behind by the criminal justice system. We strive to provide a safe place where victims can turn to while searching for justice and understanding.

  • The criminal justice system can be confusing and a little intimidating. The Hunt County District Attorney’s Office is available to provide information and services to victims of crime and their families to help them navigate through the process.

    Victims of crime are guaranteed certain rights and participation in the criminal justice system under Texas law.  A “Victim” means a person who is the victim of the offense of sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, trafficking of persons, or injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual or who has suffered personal injury or death as a result of the criminal conduct of another. However, if you are the victim of any felony crime in Hunt County, including those not listed above, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.  
    The information on the following pages relates to crime victims and services that are available to them and their families.

    The Victim Assistance Coordinator assists victims in cases of sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, trafficking of persons, injury to a child, elderly or disabled individual, family violence, close family members of victims in death cases, and assists victims in property crimes.
    If you are a victim or a family member of a victim of crime and you have questions, please contact our Victim Assistance Coordinator. The criminal justice process can be hard to understand, but our job is to help you in the following ways:
    Inform you of your rights as set forth in the law
    Assist with applying for Crime Victims' Compensation
    Assist with completing the Victim Impact Statement
    Assist with protective orders and other paperwork, as needed
    Accompany you to meetings with your prosecutor and/or to court
    Assist with safety planning and make appropriate referrals, as needed
