DBA (Doing Business As)
Assumed Name Certificate or DBA "Doing Business As"

A company doing business in Texas must file an Assumed Name Certificate (DBA "Doing Business As") with the County Clerk of each county in which the business will be conducted.  Assumed Name Certificates are good for 10 years from the date of filing or a shorter period of time may be indicated on the application.

Note: Filing an Assumed name Certificate does not prevent another party from using the same name.  Direct any legal question regarding a business name to an attorney.

The withdrawal of a partner or abandonment of an assumed name is recorded in the same office.

You may download and print Assumed Name Certificate (DBA) by clicking on the form to the left of this page.  The form must be filled out and signed in front of a notary before filing it in the County Clerk's office.  There is a $25.00 recording fee to file the document and if you need a certified copy the fee is $6.00.
