The Victim Assistance Division serves as a liaison between the victims of violent crime and the criminal justice system.  The criminal justice system can be confusing and a little intimidating. The Victim Services Division of the Cooke County Attorney’s office is available to provide information and services to victims of crime and their families.

It is important to this Office that the victims know and understand how the court system functions.  Our victim assistance coordinator will ensure that we comply with the State mandates in the Crime Victim's Bill of Rights and that each victim of a violent crime has the opportunity to have input into the decision of how the offender is prosecuted and punished.

A victim of crime is defined by Chapter 56 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, as (1) someone who is the victim of sexual assault, kidnapping, or aggravated robbery or who has suffered bodily injury or death because of the criminal conduct of another, (2) the close relative (spouse, parent, adult brother or sister, or child) of a deceased victim or (3) the guardian of a victim. The law also applies to victims of juvenile crime, including victims who suffer property loss.
