Forms of payments accepted by the Tax Assessor Collector’s office are cash, check, money order, cashier’s check and/or credit card. (For all Credit Card payments, 2.38% will be charged as a processing fee, minimum purchase of $1.00 is required.)
A $30.00 fee will be issued for any returned checks. (Driver’s license and phone number required for check payments.)
To renew any registration (vehicle, trailer, RV, etc.), the TxDMV is required to sell to the registered owner. If not registered owner you must present Authorization Letter.
- Please have your Driver’s License to verify registered owner and address.
- If your Driver’s License or government ID does not have a Colorado County address we will need proof of residency, (i.e. electric bill, cable bill, etc.) with a Colorado County address.
- If you are not the registered owner and renewing for a family member, friend, etc., we will need the registered owner’s consent to sell their renewal.
- If the TxDMV system requires a insurance verification we need to see your current insurance card before registration renewal can be processed.
- We accept cash, checks, money orders and credit cards as form of payment for registration renewals. There will be a processing fee for credit cards processed for payment.
- You can renew in person, via USPS mail or online at https://renew.txdmv.gov/ or www.Texas.gov and save $1.

Your vehicle registration may be renewed online 90 days prior to the expiration date or 12 months after the expiration date if you have not received a citation for an expired registration. Your expiration month will not change.
There is a two business day payment processing hold before your sticker is printed. Please allow up to three weeks for processing and mailing.

By Mail
Registration renewal notices are mailed to registered vehicle owners unless they opt to go paperless. To renew by mail, send the following to your county tax office:
- Renewal notice (keep the vehicle owner's section for your records)
- A copy of your Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) – (a copy can be obtained at www.mytxcar.org)
- Proof of current liability insurance
- All fees listed on your renewal notice
Texas by Texas Mobile Application
Texas by Texas (TxT) is a digital assistant that allows Texans to create an online account, manage their government-issued licenses and registrations, receive proactive reminders when it’s time to take action, and complete transactions quickly and securely. Annual vehicle registration renewal is available through the Texas by Texas mobile application, which is available in the App Store and in Google Play.

The Tax Assessor Collector's Office will be processing Boat Registrations only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Starting November 8, 2023
Colorado County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office will process TPWD Boat and Motor Title Transfers for Colorado County residents and by appointment only.
Walk ins and individuals who reside out of the county will not be processed.
TPWD boat and motor title transfers* will be processed on each and motor title transfers will be processed on each Wednesday of the month. Appointments must be made in advance by email ERICA.KOLLAJA@CO.COLORADO.TX.US
All required forms and documentation must be completed prior to appointment. If documentation is not completed at time of appointment, another appointment will be required to complete transaction.

Boat Renewals will continue to be processed for residents of Colorado County every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
