Colorado County EMS was established in 1972 to bring pre hospital care to our citizens through a volunteer format. Throughout the years and evolution of Emergency Medical Services, Colorado County EMS now boast a paid staff of 22, which also includes the EMS Director and our Administrative Assistant. We are a BLS (Basic Life Support) with MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) capable provider, licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services. CCEMS responds to approximately 3,200 calls a year and covers approximately 1,000 square miles of Southeast Texas. We have 3 stations in total and provide 4 staffed ambulances a day in Columbus, Eagle Lake and Weimar. CCEMS also serves Columbus Community Hospital and Rice Medical Center (Eagle Lake) for their emergency transfers of patients to a higher level of care either in Austin, Houston or other surrounding facilities.
We continue to strive to put our employees first by giving them the best tools of our trade. All front line units are stocked with Stryker Power Pro stretchers, Stryker stair chairs and Lucas 2’s. Our 911 fleet consists of 5 Frazer ambulances and our back up/transfer fleet consists of 2 Ford Transit ambulances. Each frontline ambulance is also equipped with Lifepak 15’s and iPads for ePCR’s and computer aided dispatch.
