Purpose & Duties

The mission of the Trinity County Veterans Services Office is to support Veterans and their families in navigating the often complex and daunting process of filing claims for federal benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Our Veteran Service Officer is certified by the Texas Veterans Commission and participates in required training sessions to stay updated on the constantly evolving laws and regulations affecting Veterans.

    • DD214, showing Honorable, General Under Honorable, or Uncharacterized Discharge
      Valid Identification such as TX Driver’s License, TX I.D. or Military I.D.
    • Social Security Card
    • Current rent receipts or copy of lease agreement
    • Current utility bills
    • Voter registration (to prove Trinity County residency)
    • Proof of income for the last 60 days for all household members, including but not limited to check stubs, letter from employer, Social Security, SSI and VA, unemployment, or worker’s compensation, etc.
    • If disabled and under doctor’s care, you must provide a current medical record and prescription
    • Additional documents may be requested at time of application

    Veterans Assistance Grant Program
    Trinity County has received a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. The program provides financial assistance to eligible Trinity County veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses. Eligibility guidelines have been established using specific income brackets and other criteria to determine the need for financial assistance. Financial assistance includes rent, utilities (water, gas, electric), transportation beneficiary vehicle, assistive technology, and food.

    Initial eligibility can be determined by phone or walk-in at the Veterans Service Office. If you meet the minimum eligibility requirements, you will then be referred for final determination of eligibility. Final approval may take upward of 7-10 days. ALL payments are made directly to vendors.
