How to Renew Your Registration Online
Mail
To ensure your registration does not get delayed or returned, the following items must be included:
- Renewal notice or Vin #
- Copy of current proof of insurance
- Check or money order payable to Montague County TAC
- Mail payments to:
Montague County Tax Office
PO Box 8
Montague, TX 76251
In Person
Please bring the following:
- Renewal notice, Vin #, or License Plate #
- Proof of insurance. Electronic versions are accepted.
- Valid photo ID
- Payment for registration fees
NOTE: If you are sending someone to renew on your behalf, provide the following:
- Renewal notice if available
- Proof of insurance
- If renewal notice is not available, we will need a note stating your name, the person's name that is authorized to pick up your registration, and vehicle information.
- Pictures of ID's for all parties involved. Pictures on a person's phone are acceptable.
- Payment for registration fees
Texas Resident (Located Out of State)
You must register your vehicle in the state or jurisdiction where you currently live, unless you are a full-time student or active military. If your vehicle is currently out of state and you are unable to complete a Texas vehicle inspection, you will be able to self-certify that the vehicle is out of state by completing form VTR-270. Once the vehicle returns to Texas you must complete a Texas vehicle inspection within three days of arrival at your destination.
