NEWS:

2024 tax information is now available!

You can access your 2024 tax information online at www.medinacountytx.org

Statements should be arriving in mailboxes by mid November.  If you don't receive a statement you can print one online at www.medinacountytx.org or visit one of our offices for a copy.

2024 taxes must be paid by January 31, 2025 to avoid penalties and interest.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE MEDINA COUNTY TAX OFFICE WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU BY PHONE AND REQUEST PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE. Tax clerks are not allowed to take payment by credit card or check over the phone.  The only time we will contact a customer would be to clear up questions about applying a payment already received.  We will never request credit card or banking information over the phone.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Property tax exemptions help to lower taxable value for some taxing units, therefore likely lowering your property tax bill.  THERE IS NO CHARGE TO APPLY FOR TAX EXEMPTIONS.  Contact the Medina County Appraisal District at (830)741-3035 to find out if you qualify for an exemption and to get more information on the application process.  There are companies that charge a fee to help you file an exemption and we want to remind taxpayers that it is free (and fairly easy) to apply!  You can also visit the MC Appraisal District's website at www.medinacad.org for more information on exemptions.

** Exemption applications follow County lines.  If your property sits in Bexar or Frio County (even if you pay school taxes to Medina County) you need to apply for exemptions with the Appraisal District in that particular county.  For example, if the property sits in Bexar County but you pay for Medina Valley ISD taxes, you need to apply for an exemption in Bexar County only.

  • Our offices will open back up to the public beginning June 1, 2020.  The following guidelines will apply:

    * If you have recently been sick or have been around someone who has been sick, please refrain from entering our offices.  Please call us!

    * Only a certain amount of people will be allowed in the lobby at one time.

    * All customers will be required to maintain a 6+ foot distance from other customers.

OUTSIDE DROP BOXES ARE STILL AVAILABLE IN HONDO AND DEVINE.  DOOR MAIL SLOTS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE CASTROVILLE AND DEVINE OFFICES.

We encourage you to continue to use our drop boxes and door slots for basic tax payments and current auto registration renewals.

CALCULATING YOUR TAX

Taxable Value x Tax Rate/100 = Property Tax Due

Please remember that The Office of The Tax Assessor-Collector only collects taxes on behalf of local taxing units.  The Tax Assessor-Collector does not set tax rates or set property values.  The governing body of each taxing unit sets the unit's tax rate and the Medina County Appraisal District sets the property value.  For more information on property values, please call the Appraisal District at (830)741-3035.

DELINQUENT TAX ATTORNEY INFORMATION

Section 6.30 of the Texas Property Tax Code allows taxing units to contract with an attorney to enforce the collection of delinquent taxes.

All taxing units collected by the Medina County Tax Office are contracted with McCreary Veselka Bragg & Allen for delinquent tax collection with the following exceptions:

Devine ISD -- Law Office of Henry G Steen, Jr.
City of Devine --
Law Office of Thomas P. Cate.

If you owe delinquent taxes, you may receive multiple delinquent tax notices from each corresponding attorney -- and for only  the entity  or entities for which they represent.
(For example if you own property within the city limits of Devine and owe delinquent taxes, you may receive delinquent notices from Cate for the City, from Steen for Devine ISD and from MVBA for all other entities.)
Payment  of delinquent taxes for all taxing units (listed in the section above) can be paid at any of the Medina County Tax Office locations.

On July 1st of the year in which the tax becomes delinquent, unpaid tax balances incur an additional penalty (attorney fee) in the amount of 20% of the delinquent tax, penalties and interest.
Tax Code Sec. 6.30(c) & Sec. 33.07(a)
