Position Summary

A Certified Shorthand Reporter, under general supervision, makes a verbatim record of court proceedings, produces transcripts, maintains and retrieves files, assists the public and performs general secretarial duties.


Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Must comply with the Code of Ethics and Chapter 52 of the Government Code
  • Machine Shorthand verbatim record of all court proceedings
  • Transcribe all court records on appeal in accordance with Uniform Format Manual and appellate guidelines
  • E-file all appellate records with the courts of appeals in accordance with appellate deadlines
  • Provide written transcripts of all proceedings upon request
  • Maintain accurate court proceedings log
  • Report speakers’ identification
  • Read back all or a portion of the proceedings upon request from the judge
  • Ask speakers to clarify inaudible or unclear statements or testimony
  • Provides copies of transcripts and exhibits to the courts, counsels, and parties involved
  • Preserve shorthand notes for future reference, per statutory guidelines
  • Mark and retain all exhibits introduced in court proceedings and later file with the district clerk and/or appropriate agency
  • Schedule a Certified Shorthand Reporter to serve in your absence
  • May perform secretarial services which assist in the administrative functions of the court and such other duties as assigned
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are required

EDUCATION

Required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of Certified Shorthand Reporting Program

 SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Valid Texas Driver License (Class C)
  • Must be a State of Texas Certified Shorthand Reporter (certification must be renewed every two years)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court staff, judges, county employees, attorneys, and the general public
  • Ability to work expeditiously and accurately under pressure (stressful situations) while maintaining a professional manner
  • Knowledge of computer equipment to include Windows and Microsoft based products

Preferred:             

  • Two or more years’ experience in court reporting operations
  • Real-time reporting capabilities

Judicial District Community Supervision and Corrections Department serving

JOB TITLE:                          Case Aide/Administrative Technician           

LOCATION:                         Centerville, Texas (Leon County)

 

JOB SUMMARY: Assists in performing community supervision case management. Work involves providing supervision to offenders and obtains information for and preparing probation administration documentation. Supervises cases classified as indirect “other”, transfer out, and/or “mail in” in compliance with departmental policy and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - CJAD standards. Refers probationers requiring special services to appropriate agencies and monitors their progress in those agencies. Responsible for the maintenance of such case records required by the Court, the Director and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - CJAD.  Manages and maintains computer case files and related records. Carries out programs presently in effect and any other programs which may be established by the Court, the Director and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - CJAD. Monitors the collection of Court ordered fees and takes appropriate action when an individual is not current. Works with Court Services to support administrative duties.  Responsible for intake processing at Court and testifies in Court related to case management as required. Work involves collecting and maintaining accurate financial records, creating and updating case records, acting as a receptionist and related administrative duties.  Works under close supervision of their unit supervisor with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.                               

QUALIFICATIONS:           High school diploma, equivalent or GED and some college hours from an accredited college or university preferred. 

Must have two years of full-time, wage-earning case management, office work, clerical or related experience.  Each year of experience may be substituted for 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge of case management and related software preferred.  Must be proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Office Suite. 

Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.  Must maintain a valid Texas license for continued employment in this position.

Must own their vehicle, have proof of current liability insurance and maintain liability insurance.

Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of Criminal Justice Practitioner Training Course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) from the Texas Department of Public Safety within one year of employment.

Senior Nutrition Driver
Required qualifications and skills:
. Excellent organizational skills
. Current driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to create a route with shortest distance from residence to residence
. Keep driving route current at all times
Reports to: Executive Director Leon County Health Resource Commission
Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Service Coordination:
. Arrive at Centerville Senior Center at 8 a.m Monday – Friday and return your vehicle to the Center at the end of each day.
. Count your meals needed for your route for accuracy
. Start your day with a full tank of gas in your delivery vehicle by filling your tank at the end of the previous day
. Drive from residence to residence to deliver home bound meals and have contact with your client or their provider.
. Develop a relationship with client and report back to Director if client seems to be in distress or not a home
. After trying to deliver two times in a row do not go back until we find out the situation of the client.
. Maintain a daily and monthly roster and turn into director at the end of each month
. Keep your roster and route up to date
. When you have vehicle problems contact your director and Henry Herren
. Change your oil every 5000 miles and rotate your tires every other oil change
. Check your tires each day
. Keep vehicle in good working order
. Keep your vehicle clean

  • Answer and handle 911 calls for service (emergency and non-emergency).
  • Answer and direct telephone calls to the proper person on the (non-emergency lines) telephone lines of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Be able to communicate over the radio, to dispatch law enforcement officers, emergency medical services, and volunteer fire departments of/or in Leon County, Texas.
  • Be a certified telecommunications operator or have the ability to become a certified telecommunications operator by attending schools or by taking online courses.
  • You will have to send and process messages over Texas Law Enforcement Network, by confirming and removing wanted persons, stolen vehicles, articles, and administrative messages.
  • Be a licensed jailer or could become a licensed jailer by attending schools or by taking online courses. You will monitor the jail, jail intercom, open and close security doors, monitor the security of the jail thru closed circuit television.
  • Monitor and log weather conditions for Leon County for National Weather Service.
  • And any other duties that the Sheriff deem necessary.

Applicants must be able to satisfactorily complete state required jail school and maintain their jail license through in-service training throughout their career.
