Q: Do I have to sign up to receive alerts?
A: Generally, yes. The program is opt-in for most devices. The exception being landlines in the county. CodeRED can call most landlines in the county in the event of a major emergency. However, we still recommend signing up to ensure delivery.
Q: Is there a mobile app?
A: Yes. There is a CodeRED mobile app. The app will alert you to any CodeRED alerts within your specified radius. It is recommended to sign up using the link if you wish to receive alerts while out of the area.
Q: Is this replacing the Jackson County app?
A: Yes. CodeRED is replacing the Jackson County app for alerting. CodeRED will allow for more customization of alerts for both the county and recipients.
Q: Will the county still post to Facebook?
A: Yes! The county will still utilize the EOC Facebook page to distribute information. CodeRED is another tool to ensure fast and accurate distribution of information in an emergency.
Q: Can I sign up without making an account?
A: Yes. You can sign up for emergency alerts only by texting JACKSONALERTS to 24639. Text alerts will be sent from this number, so you can save it in your contacts.
Q: Do I need two accounts?
A: If you wish to use the CodeRED app and get notified by other means (SMS/Email) using the County Portal, you will need to create two separate accounts. This issue has been brought to the attention of Onsolve, and we hope that the process of using the app and subscribing to local notifications will be streamlined in the future.
Q: Can I stop receiving alerts if I no longer want them?
A: Yes. You can sign in to the account and deactivate the account or you can text STOP to 24639 if you signed up for text alerts.
Q: Can I save the phone numbers that alerts come from?
A: Yes. Text alerts will come from 24639 and voice alerts will come from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office number, (361) 782-3541.
